To become certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Commercial or Residential Real Estate Law, an attorney must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas, demonstrate substantial involvement in his or her area of certification and must have:

• been practicing law on a full time basis for at least five years;
• for the preceding three years, devoted a minimum of 25% of her or his overall time practicing Texas real estate law;
• passed an examination in the area of certification; and
• favorable references from five Texas attorneys who practice in the attorney’s geographic area.
